Diagrams and Storyboards
These are examples of my approaches to a starting a design process. In addition to text work, I often use drawing, painting, collage and diagramming to begin to explore a piece.

Rag Fur Blood Bone
A version of the Gigamesh Tale written by Michael Crowley, directed by Michael Rau. To be performed at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in 2009. These collages are vignettes exploring the vocabulary of environment for the show. -
The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter
a series of 7" x 8" cards painted with acrylic, pumice, and ink. -

The Great God Brown by Eugene O'Neill
A diagram to determine when each character is wearing a mask in Great God Brown, as well as whose mask he or she is wearing. -

Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind
A 40" x 40" multi-media collage depicting scenes and moments in Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind. This was created as a beginning step towards developing a scenic design for the piece.See the finished model.

Dido and Aeneas Initial Storyboards
10 " x 13" acrylic and oil pastel paintings on board, illustrating various songs in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas (libretto by Nahum Tate). This was created as a first step towards a scenic design. -
Dido and Aeneas Collaged Storyboards
A second pass at Dido and Aeneas, phyisicalizing the space. We were interested in setting the opera in a schoolroom, where the witches were supernatural elements in an otherwise naturalistic environment.
